Regional Medical Officer, P4 – Cairo, Egypt
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are seeking to fill the position of Regional Medical Officer at the P4 level, based in our Regional Country Office in Cairo, Egypt.
 Context & Background
WFP’s Regional Bureau in Cairo (RBC) is one of six Regional Bureaux within WFP supporting, overseeing and guiding 16 Country Offices across the Middle-East, Central Asia and North Africa and serves around 27 million people which constitutes almost one third of WFP’s global beneficiaries. From 2011 onwards, WFP operations managed by RBC have seen a sharp increase in terms of operational scope and requirements. This is mainly attributable to emergency response serving those impacted by conflict, violence and displacement. Most beneficiaries in the region are assisted through unconditional resource transfer activities such as general food distribution through in-kind and cash-based transfers, followed by school meals and nutrition activities.
RBC includes countries representing a range of political, economic, environmental and social contexts which makes it not only operationally very diverse but also strategically very important. In 2018 RBC attained over 40% of WFP’s global funding which emphasizes the key role it is playing within the organization.
In this complex context taking care of the wellbeing and health of our WFP employees is critical to continue serving the people in need in the region.
