Street Child  recruits 01 Dissertation Research Volunteer – Nepal

Kathmandu, Nepal

THE ROLE

Street Child is seeking applications from motivated individuals hoping to gain valuable experience in the development sector by undertaking the role of a Dissertation Research Volunteer in Nepal. As part of the role, we are offering the opportunity for University students to explore the scope of their own dissertation projects by using methodologies to conduct research on the ground for their dissertation, in collaboration with local partner organisations. In addition to this, your research will be supported by previous Street Child assessment and research results.

We ask that students wishing to apply for this opportunity are wanting to research a relevant topic that aligns with the work of Street Child in Nepal. Some of the areas we work in include:
● Accelerated Learning and Education Transition for girls in marginalized communities
● Life Skills Protection Circles (gender-based violence, sexual reproductive health, and civic sense)
● Livelihood transition for girls in marginalized communities
● Education for children with disabilities
● Education for migrant children in brick factories

Alongside your own dissertation research, there may also be the chance to support ongoing projects in-country. Key responsibilities could include:
● Conducting literature reviews on assigned issues and proposing frameworks for how these issues
can be understood within Street Child
● Collecting, analyzing and interpreting data
● Creating/reviewing research papers with recommendations for Street Child and relevant
stakeholders.

Salary

The volunteer placement is for a duration of 4 to 12 weeks depending on the applicant’s availability and the dates are flexible.

Successful applicants must be prepared to live and work in very basic conditions and to travel independently to urban, rural and remote project sites. The applicant must be able to manage his or her own work plan and report regularly to the team on progress, and will be considered a valued member of the team. Once in-country, there is a fixed daily cost covering accommodation and any work related to travel. This accommodation will be provided by Street Child at a fixed cost, and could require sharing a room with another volunteer of any gender. A more detailed breakdown of costs and expenses will be provided for those applicants selected for an interview.

A fundraising commitment for the charity is required of all successful applicants, for which support will be provided by Street Child UK. Successful applicants will be assigned a fundraising mentor who is on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have as well as providing ideas, advice and support to help you reach your target. For those who excel in surpassing their targets, there is the opportunity to have the costs of your flights covered.
