Organizational Setting
 Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the FAO Representative Assistant for Program (A-FAOR-P), the Gender specialist’s main role is to ensure an effective gender mainstreaming mechanism (equality approach incorporated) in all projects at country level office. The Gender specialist will promote and advocate an organizational learning at individual level on how to practically and effectively mainstream gender´s issues into projects and programs and also on FAO Angola office´s structure within the framework of existing programmatic support from Head Quarters and Regional Officer. The consultant will be responsible for making links between gender and specific thematic areas as: work, political participation, education, sexual and reproductive health, human rights and violence against women.
Reporting Lines
 The consultant will report direct to FAO Representative (FAOR) in Angola and work closely with FAO Representative Assistant for Programme (A-FAOR).

Tasks and responsibilities
 Ensure an affective gender´s issues mainstreaming mechanism in FAOR programs and projects
Provide gender´s trainings and participate  in pertinent activities
Provide  support in the formalization of Projects with the sectoral engagement of women
Support the integration of gender issues in the daily management of programs and projects with focus to social and economic framework as well as national and regional statistical references and insert gender equity issues as key points in the projects documents proposal
Day-to-day manage the ongoing projects and the activities including the monitoring of women participation on trainings and workshops, mapping of gender equality, parity and gender balance promotion.
Contact the focal points networking (at HQ, Regional and Sub regional level) and establish regular briefing sessions as well continued as UN Women
Compilation documents related with gender profile and create a digital and physical office collection of Gender assessment (national, regional and global view), Gender database (sectorial profile), Gender guidelines, ToR, other references (UN recommendations, FAO checklist, etc)
Oversees and reviews, from a gender perspective, data collection, validation, analysis and reporting activities to support the development of technical standards, international instruments, innovation, FAO flagship publications
Follow and implement operational and administrative UN procedures and FAO standards  to enhance gender mainstreaming mechanism
Perform briefings, actions  or activities on gender  with/to colleagues in  Country Office
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
 University degree in  Political science, Social Sciences, Gender, Institutional Development or other revelevant social science
At least five years’ experience in Gender in Rural Development context and training.
Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish
 Additional Selection Criteria
 Experience in Angola and familiarity with Angola’ rural context is considered as asset
Knowledge of national information rules, regulations and procedures and good communications skills
Ability  to work under pressure and adapt to an evolving and complex context and within multidisciplinary and different cultural background teams;
Demonstrated ability to establish good working relationship and team spirit both inside the Organization and with external partners such as government officers, UN partners, donors or NGOs;
Professional experience in FFS in Portuguese/ Spanish-speaking countries.
