The EU Aid Volunteers initiative provides opportunities to European citizens and long-term residents, from a wide range of backgrounds and with a diversity of skills and professional experience, to get involved in humanitarian aid projects, support the provision of needs-based humanitarian aid in third countries and engage in volunteering opportunities through deployment.

 

Concern is looking for talented people with a relevant technical skillset who are committed to long-term service in the humanitarian/development sector who can demonstrate an outstanding ability to adapt to difficult circumstances, remain positive, motivated and productive.

 

Successful EU Aid Volunteers will benefit from:

– Experience volunteering in a large international NGO through an apprenticeship based in Concern’s Head Office in Dublin.

-Hands-on learning in a 12 month field placement in the Concern Liberia country programme.

-Opportunity for continuous self-development with the help of a mentor, line manager and on-line tools.

 

To support the Concern Liberia team in further refining and reinforcing its monitoring and evaluation tools and their use for improving the implementation of integrated programmes aiming at reducing malnutrition and increasing agricultural production and access to markets in extremely poor communities in Liberia.

 

The volunteer will primarily focus on strengthening the monitoring and evaluation functions currently supporting the two large multi-year programmes – Accelerating Nutrition, Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resource Management (ANSARM) and Prosperous Agriculture Road Map to Nutrition & Entrepreneurship, Reinforcing Sustainability (PARTNERS) Programme, and other shorter term projects.  This will include strengthening the analysis of data of the current work being implemented, identifying and promoting best practises as well as innovative ways to deliver lasting change in communities.

Experience / Qualifications Essential :
• Masters level graduate in a development related field or Development Studies, Social science, Economics, International Relations, or relevant field experience preferred.
• Proven experience of working in project management cycle, particularly in implementing integrated development programmes/ Emergency Response projects at community level.
• A minimum of 1 year experience in a developing country or humanitarian context.
• Experience in facilitating workshops, trainings, Focus Group Discussions, structured, semi-structured and open ended interview process.
• Strong data analysis skills, both quantitative and qualitative.
• Excellent spoken and written English.
• Proven ability in research and documentation; great attention to detail.Desirable:
• Good understanding of aspects of project management, particularly monitoring and evaluation systems;
• Facilitation and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to act as part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team;
• Ability to organize and prioritize workload, using initiative when appropriate;
• Ability to cope with stress and work to strict deadlines;
• Flexibility, adaptability, sense of humour, and patience;
• Analytical and problem solving skills;
• Ability to assess problems and recommend solutions;
• Spoken and written French to a minimum B2 level on the common European Framework of References for Languages.

Salary / Allowance
A structured learning and development plan will be developed for each EU Aid Volunteer. This will include; self-assessment, structured learning and development plan reviews; online learning, peer-to-peer support, a two week EU run workshop and networking and learning opportunities across the consortium. EU Aid Volunteers will also have an assigned mentor for the entirety of their volunteer placement with Concern. This is combined with line management in country from an experienced humanitarian professional.

Interdependencies with other functions;
The apprenticeship for this position will be based in Concern’s Head Office in
Dublin, Ireland. During the apprenticeship period the Volunteer will interact with departments across Concern Head Office and the Liberia country programme.
